Right from this start this story is action packed. There is a major sense of urgency as they travel to the newly claimed angel city of Aerie. The journey is full of danger for both humans and angels. Humans have started to salvage angel parts and Raffe can’t fly anymore. They encounter all kinds of people and monsters through their journey, and it doesn’t stop when they get where they are going. There are some scenes that are truly terrifying. I won’t soon forget the horrors of this world.

Penryn is such an awesome heroine. Her mother felt her sanity slipping years ago, so she put Penryn into martial arts at an early age. She is capable, but small in stature and that makes a lot of people underestimate her. I loved that she is just a normal girl with knowledge as opposed to having some stupid special gift. Right away, I understood and related so much to Penryn it was hard not to love her sister Paige and to miss her as Penryn did.

This unlikely pair, Penryn and Raffe, stole my heart. Of course, they aren’t really a couple but they are a team. Angels aren’t allowed to lay with the daughters of men and Raffe’s character doesn’t let the reader forget that. I loved that he was an angel not quoting scripture. He also has issues blindly following a leader as all the angels are expected to do. They don’t even know why they go to earth to destroy, but destroy is what they do. These are not the peaceful angels from paintings, these are god’s warriors and they serve their vengeful god as warriors should.

The angels are beautifully described through Penryn’s eyes. Their angelic faces and rippling muscles paired with inhuman eyes. I loved that we learn how much they weight, and the rules for their swords. There was just so many fun facts included in the dialogue. Then world is also a lot of fun to discover as the author really knows how to set a scene with descriptive details. The world building in this story was mind blowing and easy to imagine.

This book really blew me away. I finished this story and immediately grabbed the next book in the series.

Wow. This book though. Wow.

I found my diamond in the rough.

So, I read Hush, Hush, suffice to say I wasn't to keen on reading another angel book after such a disappointment. Though I was reluctant, I still added this book to my TBR a couple months ago and it has been sitting in my library for about as long, waiting for me to finally take the plunge. I was in need of something new and this effing blew my mind!!!!

I'm so angry at myself for not reading this sooner! This book was amazing. Truly, an amazing book. I don't know how else to say it. I tend to find these books that are nothing like I expect, and this, this makes me happy.

I know this kind of sounds pretty far fetched, but this book surprised me in a lot of ways. The major point was how FREAKING AWESOME Penryn was!

This chick blew my mind! She was strong, loyal, smart, funny, needed some serious help in the wit department and above all that she was totally BADASS!!!! Everything she did, I was behind her every step of the way. Not once did I question her motives or thought she was annoying. She was consistent and true from start to finish. It was beautiful! *I think I may have my first girl crush on a fictional female character!*

Then, we have Raffe. Oh my gosh. He had me rolling with his arrogant, witty, sarcastic comments! This guy was the bees knees. I liked him a whole lot but I feel as though I need to know more about him. Who would have thought the day would come where I'm raving more about a heroine than the hero? Definitely not I! But my heart did break for him though.... The last 10% my heart was in my hand and I was holding it out to him because he owned it by then.

This plot, was nicely built. I felt the impending doom from the start. My heart was getting confused from all the crazy it was being put through. The story started with a fight scene and then in between all those action packed moments where there were too many close calls for my liking... gaaaahhh!!! I just wanted to find some damn spoilers to save me the stress. But alas, the pull of the story won out and I resisted.

Boy am I glad I resisted because there were some serious moments where I loved the element of surprise! The story had a nice balance though, lots of action and intense moments but there was also a lot of sweet and ROTFL moments. This girl, was a riot, Raffe too. I loved their banter.

I highly recommend reading this, but I must give some fair warning. This book was a bit dark, it had some cringe worthy moments. I was a bit put off but I've read worse so I was able to get through. Some may not find it as great, but really once you get past that, which comes later down in the story, it's actually pretty wonderful. The darkness actually adds to the authenticity of the plot. But that's just me...
